English term

‘throwing’ the test

Non-PRO English to French Bus/Financial Human Resources DISC principle
One key to interpreting a profile is the amplitude or length of the lines connecting the points.

Long lines show strong tendencies.

- People with “longer lines” more clearly manifest the characteristics of their style. They are clear about who they are. So is everyone around them.
-Flatter lines are more controlled personalities.
-Those with flatter patterns are more difficult to read—we need to observe them over time in various settings to see clear patterns. They play it “close to the vest.”

NOTE to FACILITATOR: Flat patterns don’t mean the participant is “well-rounded.” It usually means they don’t know themselves very well. Try to use the Least graph instead of the composite.

Reasons for Flat Patterns:
-Participant is ‘throwing’ the test.
-Most and Least graphs cancel each other out
-For less than 5% of participants, DISC doesn’t work
-Participant is going through a major life transition (job change, marriage) and does not know what behavior is expected of them. Wait 6 months and take it again.

Discussion

Tony M Dec 10, 2007:
Doesn't 'throw' simply mean 'to deliberately try and fail', in something like a boxing match or whatever?
